MAIN PANEL SECTIONS:

 SECTION---->Search or Download:
Purpose: Gives the user a chance to choose between :
-Searching for Patents using the Search Centre or
-DownLoading directly.

Note: Anytime you change the databases, or change from Search to Download, the Main Panel will be Reset completely and you have a Clean Slate. All previous searches and downloads will be reset.    

SECTION---->Search Center:
Purpose: Search for Patents using search fields. 

Search:
 Enter the Search Fields and Click Search.

Next 30 :
If the Search is successful and there are more results to be displayed, this button will be enabled.

Search All :
Click once to let ipMAGNET search and display all the available results.

Stop Search:
For any reason, if you would like to Stop the Search process, Click this Button. Only the results that were obtained so far will be displayed.

Reset:
Click this button to clear all the Search Fields.

SECTION---->Search Results Display :
Purpose: If the search is successful, the results will be displayed in Search Display Panel.

If the search is successful, the first 30 results will be displayed in Search Display Panel.
To Select a Single Patent:
Click your left mouse anywhere on the desired row of the Search Display Panel.
 To Select Multiple Patents:
If the interested Patents are in continous order, Left Mouse Click on a Patent, Hold the Shift Key and Press PageUp/PageDown Key or
If the interested Patents are not-continous, Hold the CTRL Key and Left Mouse Click on all the required Rows. 

SECTION---->Download Centre :
Purpose: To initiate the DownLoad process.

DownLoad :
This Button will be enabled anytime a patent is ready for download.

Stop:
For any reason, if you would like to Stop the DownLoad process, Click this Button.

Retry:
 Select the Failed Patent from the Download Centre, Click this to Re-Download a Patent that has Failed in the previous attempt. You can also Re-Download a completed Patent with New DownLoad Options.
Hint: You can retry only one patent at a time.

 Delete List :
Clicking this will empty the Patents and it's status from the DownLoad Center.

Info :
If the download is successful, Clicking this will give you a brief information about the Patent, including any Equivalents.


This screen presents a snap-shot information about the patent.
If this particular patent has an equivalent (related) publication in another country, then the list of all those equivalent patent numbers are presented here.
SECTION---->Download Options :
Purpose: To select the way a Patent is to be downloaded.

You have the choice to download the Patent either  in Full(HTML and Fascimile), Sections(by Sections), Html only etc.
The Default Settings are HTML and All Fascimile Images. HTML Option cannot be unchecked.

If you want to download the entire Patent, but by sections, select Sections and check all the sections.
If you want to download just a specific section, select Sections and select just that section.
If any section that you select is not available in the patent, "N/A" message will be displayed.

 Ex: If you are downloading patent 12345 and

case 1: using the default settings, the result will be
 12345-biblio .htm,
12345-claims .htm,
12345-description .htm, and 
12345-FULL .pdf

case 2: using the Sections option and selecting all the sections, then the result will be
12345-biblio .htm,
12345-claims .htm,
12345-description .htm, and
12345-biblio .pdf,
12345-description .pdf,
12345-drawings .pdf ,
12345-claims. pdf  and
12345-searchreport.pdf

SECTION---->Preferences :
Purpose: To set the Preferences for your EPO Control Panel. 

You can change these various settings to be your new defaults. The Various settings are described below.
1. Start With...: Sets the starting Database to either Search or Download. All operations in the Main Panel will be cleared if this setting is changed.
2. Download Options: You can set these Download options to be your new defaults. Every Patent will be downloaded using these new settings.
You can change the Download options temporarily from the Main Panel on individual basis, but these settings will takeover after the download.
3. Open Patent IMAGES after download :Select this option if you would like to View the Patent after a successful download.
4. Start ipMAGNET with EPO: Select this option to start ipMAGNET with the EPO everytime you use ipMAGNET.                       

Get Default Settings: This will bring up the factory settings.
Don't Change: Click this if you don not want to change the settings now.
Save My Settings: Once you modify the individual settings, Clicking this button will Save your options and will be your new default settings.
Note: Anytime the settings are changed, the Main Panel will be Reset completely and you have a Clean Slate. All previous searches and downloads will be reset.  






FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
  1. Does ipMAGNET cover the new Level-3 EPO?
    Yes. ipMAGNET 7.0 supports the new Level-3 EPO.

  2. How do I SEARCH for Patents?
    1. Select the Search option if it is not already selected from Search or Download Section.
    Choose the desired server(Worldwide, EP, WIPO).
    2.     Type the desired search terms. Search fields will be ANDED if you enter more than one Search field.You can do so to narrow the Search Results.
    3 . Click SEARCH Button.

  3. How do I DOWNLOAD the Patents?
    You can DownLoad Patent(s) in two ways
     A. From the Search Results:
    After performing a Search, choose the Patent(s) from the displayed results and click DownLoad.
    B. Direct DownLoad
    If you know the Patent Number and it's country code, you can download the patent directly.
    1. Select the DownLoad Option from the Search or DownLoad Box.
    2. Select the country code of the patent from the drop-down menu
    3. Enter the Patent Number.
    4. Enter the Kind Code, if there is one.
     5. Click the DOWNLOAD Button.

  4. How do I VIEW the Patents?
    ipMAGNET is a patent downloader, not a Patent Viewer. It is the User's responsibilty to install the appropriate Viewer to Open and View the Patents.
    EPO Patents are in PDF Format and you have to have a PDF Reader to view the downloaded patents.
    You might already have a PDF Reader. If not you should download it.     ipMAGNET neither recommends nor endorses any particular viewer.

    There are two ways to view the Patents once they are downloaded by ipMAGNET.
    1. View immediately after DownLoad:(Default, No User Input)
    After a successful download, ipMAGNET locates the PDF Reader installed on your machine and opens the Patent immediately.
    If there is no PDF Reader or if ipMAGNET has trouble locating the PDF Reader, You will be prompted with a Warning Message.         
    If this is the case, you should open the PREFERENCES Dialog and Uncheck "View the Patents after Download" so that you will not see this message for every download.

    2. Using the View Command: (Manual )
    If you only want to download the Patents and don't want to open the Patents right away, you should open the PREFERENCES Dialog and
    Uncheck "View the Patents after Download". Now, anytime you want to View the Patents manually, use the View Command and select the Patent to View.

  5. What is the Patent Number Format?
    The Patent Number format has three parts:
    -a 2 letter Country Code,
    -a Serial Number and sometimes
    -a Kind Code.   

    Ex: EP1226939B1.
    Select the appropriate country code from the "country" pull-down menu and
    Enter the Serial Number in the "patent number" box.
    Enter the Kind Code, if you know it. If not, ipMAGNET will get the latest Patent from the epo database.

     NOTE:
    In some cases, the Serial number has letters in it. You cannot then enter the Serial Number in the "patent number" box.
    Ex: USD476801S.
    You can download this patent by selecting Search option, entering USD476801S in the "publication number" field and clicking "Search" button.
    After the Search, select the Patent from the Search Display Panel and Click DownLoad.

    If the Format for the requested Patent Number is invalid, you will be informed with a message at the Message Center.
    You have to correct the format and then Click the DOWNLOAD Button again.

  6. What does each database contain?
    Coverage of the EP database
    This database enables you to search the patent applications published by the European Patent Office over the last 24 months (for EP patent applications older than 24 months you should select the WorldWide Option
    Coverage of the WorldWide database
    The worldwide database enables you to search for information about published patent applications from over 80 different countries and regions.
    Coverage of the WIPO database
    This database enables you to search in the patent applications published by  WIPO (WO publications) in the last 24 months.


  7. I get a "Document or  database inaccessible" message after downloading the Patent?
    ipMAGNET merges only valid PDF Files. It seems like some of the downloaded PDF image files might be corrupted or they might be inaccessible at the ESPCENETdatabase.
    You can confirm this by visitng the EPO Website and looking for the patent PDF Files. You can however view the valid individual PDF image files that are downloaded.

  8. Session requests per minute exceeded. What is this?
    According to espacenet helpdesk, " A tighter control on how many searches / result list navigations a User can do per minute has been set. At the moment the limits are.
    - a normal User with a session may perform 10 requests per minute. This is the default esp@cenet operation, esp@cenet will assign a session when starting an esp@cenet search".
    Please re-try your request with a new session.
